Experience the Magic

December is a very exciting month at American Christmas. It is a thrill to see our work come to life after months of planning and production. Not to mention, it’s gratifying when we get the chance to stop and celebrate our many accomplishments.

This year has been full of interesting new projects and impressive accomplishments, but personally, I am most proud of American Christmas’ efforts at Saks Fifth Avenue. My teammates and I spent weeks in production and working overnight, making preparations for a holiday light show inspired by art deco motifs and the glamorous legacy of the luxury department store.

Over 71,000 lights and 11,000 linear feet of garland later, “An Enchanted Experience” debuted on November 24 with a performance by 36 of the legendary Rockettes. For a fleeting moment, Fifth Avenue between 49th and 50th was filled with high kick lines and a very special fireworks display, launched from the rooftop of the department store. All the while, projections danced, lights sparkled and spectators’ eyes darted across the façade.

When I saw the first show on opening night, I have to tell you—it was enchanting! This is a production that I felt very proud to be a part of and I will remember the opening night experience for the rest of my life. To see the enjoyment in the spectators’ eyes (and the clients’!) was absolutely surreal. During every step of producing the magic, it has been a labor of love for all us here at American Christmas and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to stop and savor the moment and celebrate the accomplishment.

You can see a video of the projection and lighting show here. But be sure to stop by Saks Fifth Avenue during your walk down Fifth Avenue this holiday season to see the show for yourself, and use the 2014 American Christmas Walking Tour as a guide.

Maybe I’ll see you there, as I savor the happiness and memories that our work brings!
